You have to admit, in some ways these laws sound a lot like the ones God gave Israel. I especially like the laws where the father says “because we do not do that, and that is why.” Every parent has used that rationale – we just don’t do that.

God gives some self-evident commands too, like the
long list of relatives in Lev 18 for whom one shouldn’t “uncover their nakedness.” Like, “do not approach the wife of your uncle… for she is your aunt.” It’s as if God needs to remind people of the fact that the people they are considering propositioning are their own family.
