All are welcome to join me for my upcoming seminar weekend in Indianapolis. This is where I’ll be:
Westlake Church of God
6696 Rockville Rd
Indianapolis, IN 46214
I’ll be giving a workshop on my latest book, Reading the Bible with Rabbi Jesus on Saturday, October 6 from 8:30-11:45 AM, and then speaking at both services (9 & 10:45 AM) on Sunday.
To sign up use this link. And, make note, the church is giving a copy of one of my books to the first 100 people who sign up!
Here’s what I’m planning for the seminar:
Thru the Eyes of Jesus
How a Cultural Perspective Can Transform Your Understanding
Session 1 – Being There: Crossing the Cultural Divide: Modern Westerners have a hard time with the Bible. The distance is often not one of time but of culture. We need to grasp the assumptions of its original audience.
Session 2 – The Bible Thinks as a We: Americans are known for their individualism, but Middle Easterners focused on family, clan and community. How does this shed light on the Scriptures?
Session 3 – God’s Wise Hebrew Words: The Bible’s Hebrew words are wider and deeper than their English equivalent. Understanding the Bible’s Hebrew “accent” yields new tools for digging into God’s Word.
Sunday morning:
Jesus’ Bold Jewish Messianic Claims – Jesus doesn’t seem to describe himself as the exalted Messiah that we find in the rest New Testament…until you read his words in their Jewish context.
