I’ll be speaking several times over the weekend of February 21-24 at Alamo Heights United Methodist Church
825 E. Basse Road
San Antonio, Texas, 78209
(210) 826-3215
On Friday evening and Saturday, I’ll be teaching workshop called Jesus, Our Rabbi and Lord. I’ll also be speaking at three services on Sunday Morning (2/24).
Here are the topics of my talks:
Friday Evening (2/22)
Jesus, Our Rabbi and Lord: What difference does it make that Jesus was Jewish? Why is it important for us to know about? We’ll look at how his first-century Jewish context sheds light on his ministry and messianic claims.
Saturday (2/23)
Shema! Hearing Jesus through a Disciple’s Ears:. The two greatest commands, to love God and love neighbor, actually come from the Torah, and were discussed by other teachers of the day. Looking more deeply at their context unlocks new meaning.
Unlocking Jesus’ Jewish Wisdom: We’ll look at one of Jesus’ more difficult sayings, about “do not judge,” in the light of the wider rabbinic conversation going on. We’ll see that it yields practical application for life today.
On Sunday morning, I’ll be sharing my presentation, “Rabbi, Teach us to Pray.” There I’ll look at what Jesus’ prayer life was like, and explore some rich Jewish prayer traditions that can teach us how Jesus wanted us to pray.
(The cost for the seminar is $10 per person and includes snacks and a continental breakfast on Saturday. Check the Alamo Heights website for more information. I’ll post more as I get updates.)
