I’m excited to be partnering with my colleague Rev. Dr. Milly Erema to give a Saturday Seminar called “Reading the Bible as An Insider” on October 12th, 2024. Here’s the flyer:

We will be talking about some of the fascinating things that we are discovering together, with my interest in the Bible in its cultural context along with Milly’s unique life experience, which combines a Ph. D. in Old Testament from Asbury Seminary, with a life experience of a childhood within a traditional East African tribal group whose way of life retains many practices from the Ancient Near East.

When Milly attended seminary in the US, her professors were fascinated by her personal experience with realities that sounded much like the biblical world. They often remarked that she “reads the Bible as an insider.” Many passages that seem odd or harsh to modern readers make perfect sense where Dr. Erema comes from. The seminar will begin at 1 PM with the following schedule:

1:00-1:30   Introducing our Speakers

1:30-2:30   Exploring Interesting Imagery, Q&A

2:30-2:45   Break

2:45-4:00   Unlocking Puzzling Passages, Q&A

4:00-4:15    Break

4:15-5:30    Sharing Christ in Uganda Today

6 PM            Pizza dinner and conversation (for those who can stay)

There is no cost for this seminar, but a free-will offering will be taken for Kingsway Christian High School, which serves the many orphans and victims of wars in Northern Uganda.
