Over 250 people joined me and Rev. Dr. Milly Erema, of Uganda Christian University for a zoom presentation that we did on October 22, 2024. We gave a seminar called “Reading the Bible as an Insider” that shared some insights from my current writing with Dr. Erema.
The Bible is tough to understand for modern Christians. The Old Testament is especially challenging. But what if we had an “insiders” perspective on this difficult text?
Rev. Dr. Milly Erema has a Ph. D. in Old Testament and has been teaching Bible at Uganda Christian University for over 22 years. When Dr. Erema was in seminary, her professors were fascinated by how she interpreted the Bible from a perspective of growing up within a traditional East African tribe that retains many practices from the Ancient Near East. They remarked that she reads the Bible “as an insider.” Passages that seem odd or harsh to modern readers often make perfect sense where Dr. Erema comes from.
The video is unedited from the zoom presentation. Several folks wrote to share their enthusiastic comments.
Enjoy!

Milly’s Heroic Ministry in Uganda
Towards the end, I (Lois) took a few minutes to share about Milly’s remarkable ministry that has transformed the lives of hundreds of children who endured the wars in northern Uganda.
I made a separate video of just that part. Check it out below:
If you watched our seminar (which did not cost you anything), would you consider a donation to Kingsway Christian High School?
I, Lois, made a website for Kingsway and set up a US board, and figured out how to allow them to accept tax-deductible donations via a partnership with Christian Ministry Alliance.
A donation of $50 or $100, or a monthly donation of any amount would be much appreciated.
You can quickly give using a credit card using this link.

Almost all of the children attending are from impoverished families that can’t afford regular tuition ($393/year) so pay a reduced fee ($234/year). But even regular tuition doesn’t cover the actual cost! Milly and her family pay the difference out of their own pockets, and they make about $5000-$10,000 a year themselves. They grow a huge garden to save on food costs.
If you want to directly help out some of the poorest people on the planet, this is a great place to do that.
