You haven’t heard much from me lately, and it’s because I’ve been putting the finishing touches on something new. It’s an ebook!
This is my first venture in this new medium. It’s called…
drumroll…
5 Hebrew Words
that Every Christian
Should Know
A Bite-Sized Bible Study
This is an introductory word study of five of my favorite Hebrew words. It is written for a general Christian audience, folks who are involved in Bible study, but want to go deeper. Even though it’s a brief study, readers are given enough grasp of a few key words that they’ll be able to keep using them in future Bible reading.
The book doesn’t assume its audience has read my writing about the Jewish context of Jesus. Rather, it broadly introduces the idea that Bible study is far richer when we read the Scriptures in light of their original language and culture.
There’s a specific reason why I chose the eBook format. Unlike a printed book, it allows me to link to a Bible study website so that readers can compare Bible translations. Comparative word studies are a great way to see the breadth of how words can be translated. I’ve often wished I could do this in a printed book, but readers can’t be expected to have stack of Bibles at hand. Instead of just being told about the wideness of Hebrew words, people can examine them for themselves.
The ebook should available from this website within a week, Lord willing. I’d appreciate your prayers for technical issues and final edits. I hope not to keep you waiting. Tell your friends, and check back soon!
Update: The ebook is now available in the ORJ bookstore and on this page:

Bless you, Lois. As one who has struggled from time to time to learn some of the Hebrew language, I am sure I will get much from such a publication. My prayer is that all the way would be made smooth for this to be a reality very soon. I am really looking forward to it.

I am loving your book on Walking in the Dust of Rabbi Jesus. I have been studying Old Testament Hebrew for the last few years and your writing has given me great insight and application. I am eager to read more of your writing. I will be praying for a smooth, stress-free wrap up of your current project.

Lois, you reached the climax of Bible study, when you said it “is far richer when we read the Scriptures in light of their original language and culture.” That is my mutual discovery for getting the full integrity of a understanding of scripture. That is why I plan on purchasing this book when it comes out.
Jennifer Young says
I am very excited for this – and about the format.
