Celebrating a New Website Theme

March 3, 2020 6 Comments

Hooray! The Our Rabbi Jesus website has a new theme!

The content of the site is still the same and all the articles and posts are still there. But now it’s more readable on cell phones and it’s easier to find things. The “Events” page is now the “Speaking” page and it’s had some updates.

If you’re on a cell phone, try swiping on the rows of pictures on the bottom of the home page – you can look through the articles quickly.

If you’re a longtime reader of this WordPress blog that I put up in 2008, you might be used to it looking like this:

When I first designed the site I wanted it to be meditational rather than commercial-looking. This is my personal writing blog, but I didn’t want it to focus on me, but on Jesus. So, we went with a picture of the Sea of Galilee at sunrise. It looked fine at first, but on a cell phone the text was just too tiny to read. Also, light print on a black background is hard to read.

The new theme still has an image of the Sea of Galilee at sunrise, only now it’s closer to daytime. You might think I went to a big firm to find such a perfect image, but it’s a photo that my niece Marta took last summer when she climbed Mt Arbel. (She was on the archaeology dig at Bethsaida that I wrote about recently.) We didn’t modify the image at all. It looked perfect when we first put it up!

I really like how the new site echoes the color and style of the original site. I worked with a website programmer who assured me he was not a designer, but it felt like the Lord was helping us out.

Do you think that God keeps up with technology? I can’t imagine that heaven is stuck in the first century with abacuses and sundials. It’s hard, though, to imagine angels studying computer languages and learning about spammers, hackers and cyber warfare.

I’ve been dealing with websites for almost twenty years and I’m amazed at how time consuming they are, and how fast they get antiquated. What a pain they are. And a blessing, I should not forget.

Celebrating today! Hooray!

The Mt Arbel picture is great. We were on the top of that rock point as part of our class at JUC in 2008.
